a great deal, enjoying it more than at any time since I was in the grades. So absorbed did I become that I felt rather annoyed when they asked me to fly an hour or so a day. Now, however, I am busy flying for a full half day. We started gunnery a few days back, going down to St. Augustine field the first thing in the morning and not getting back until 12:30 noon. We do all our firing out over the ocean and use this field for refueling and rearming instead of coming clear back to Cecil. Again my record on the sleeve is punk. We are about half through gunnery and there is only one other guy in the flight who has done worse. Its rather hard to understand. However, I am not discouraged and feel sure that soon I shall start hitting. Starting today we fly in the afternoon again. Perhaps, I shall truly splatter that target this hop - why not? I remember Jack Everman as a very sincere and conscientious boy. It is gratifying to learn that C.S. has been of much help to him. His letter was a fine tribute to you, mother, even though he spoke of Ben and me. Day before yesterday I had a nice letter from him too. Shall plan to answer soon. Much obliged, Gus, for depositing my money and purchasing the war bonds - also, for the accounting you rendered in your letter. If you even think it best to pay off the uniform bill
