3 Now for an unconnected list of informative matter--hit & miss, but of some interest, I hope. Pettit was in the hospital for two weeks & ran into difficulty with his flying when he got out. He received several downs, even went on squadron time, but finally got out of squadron one & is now over at squad three. The reason for going to squad. three before two is that the latter requires that you live at Ellyson field, & since some of the boys aren't yet finished with ground school when checking out of one it is best to fly at three which is on the main station & permits a half day of ground school each day. The middle word in needle, ball, & airspeed is just what it reads. The needle indicates the rate & direction of turn & the ball indicates whether you are using the proper amount of bank.
