of 5. This accounts for its extreme maneuverability & ability to climb almost straight up. However, it doesn't take much of a hit to blow it apart, & it doesn't hang together in a powerful dive very well. Jim Carroll gave me a little dope on the Vought Corsair, a new Navy fighter which is supposed to be really something. You have probably seen pictures of it, with its inverted gull wings & very large propeller. Both it & the P-47, the Army's newest fighter, have 2000# engines, but the Corsair only weighs 9000# in comparison with the P-47's 13000 lb. Heard some scuttlebut (rumor) to the effect that the germans are now carrying rockets on their fighter wings for use in a tight spot - set off the rockets & they can climb almost straight up for the moment.
