the last run I may get them. At present Marvin has done better than any one else, for which I am very glad, because he has often stated that he would like to get fighters. The first two times out I couldn't seem to get very excited about it all, and I think that largely accounted for my poor showing. It is hard to do well at anything unless you have a keen desire. As a matter of fact, I have been having a serious flirtation with mediocrity for about six weeks, but now feel that I am on the ball again. Should I get scouts I probably will get home the latter part of August, but if I get fighters it won't be until two or three weeks later. Thanks a lot for your fine long letters and those you enclosed from Ben. I wrote him a very long letter just three days ago in which I mentioned how proud I was of the record he had made a Ia. State as indicated on the personnel circular sent out by the college, and that I thought the picture of him was the best I have ever seen. I really thought it was an honey, and, of course, Marvin remarked that he looked older than I!! It was heartening to hear his enthusiasm and satisfaction with the way things were going. I hope he can maintain that outlook throughout, though how he can mention that he was mate of the deck so many times without grousing I do not know. How different we are in some ways Can you imagine me telling about the way I have packed my clothes away in. neat little piles (which, of course, would be alie on the face of it, for I just throw mine in any old way), or what a kick I got out of organizing a picnic, or challenge gap to a packing contest? Interested to hear about the FLB reorganization, Gus, and glad that you aren't too disappointed in the place that you have been given. Know that when merit alone determines the allocation of positions you will finally be right up at the top. Am getting anxious to get home again. Must make my leave the most wonderful vacation I have ever had. Shouldn't be too hard, I can think of a thousand things I want so much to do kiss----mother, laugh with pap, kid George, satiate myself at the family table, go to church, play golf at Perry, have a late breakfast at Grandma's with the recordings playing in the next room, exchange stories with Uncle Chas., spark my various (but few) girl friends, and a great many other things. Must shower and get along now. Love nile
