-2- I had a nice visit with Howie Rosenblum recently. His army unit was transferred from California and he came to Chicago via plane to see his girlfriend. He'd had dinner in California with Ben just two night's previously. The airplane, she is wonderful! Russ got me a pass to go into the air base at Norfolk, so I actually got to sit in some of the big amphibians and so forth. The bombers really land fast, don't they? Russ' plane does just the opposite - takes off fast, thanks to the catapult. I guess Bud and George had a fine time together at the Lake. I didn't miss going this year because I live on Lake Michigan all the year around. Last weekend Mac drove me up to the cottage that Aunt Mary and Uncle Jack and the McCormac's took for the summer in Michigan. Uncle Jack was enjoying the luxury of not having to shave for Court - and hadn't even been near the lake in the 4 weeks they'd been there. From bottle to bunk and back again was his daily routine, so says Mary C...Bill and Lindsay, her kids, are really cute....But come around in a few years and see the Luerssen offspring. (Better make that about 1950, as it will take Russ and me that long to settle the argument of whether we're going to settle in Florida or California. I suppose we'll end up on a chicken farm in Missouri, just to be different.) I have lunch one a week with Juanita Mortimer. Randy was here last week and much disgusted over the fact that he was in good enough health to be drafted but not to enlist in the Navy. This seems to be most of the news from Chicago for now - and besides, I gotta get busy and earn that new raise. Hope you haven't minded getting this unsolicited letter from your Cousin - but all the billboards tell us that service men like to get letters. It pays to advertise! Love and Good Luck - good thinking, rather, Betty (Mrs. R. L. Luerssen as of 5 months now)
