Monday May 4, 1942 U.S. Naval Air Station PENSACOLA, FLORIDA Dear People, I am now satisfactorily by my 33 hour check, as I may already have written you, and will take my final check in primary squadron this afternoon. I wish that I could have a week or two in which to practice all the maneuvers I have learned, but such is not to be. By the end of this week I shall be starting primary formation flying, and just about the time I get the hang of it, something else will be scheduled. And do it goes, as we are hurried toward the sterner task ahead. On last Wednesday I found a letter in my mail box marked from the Commandants Quarters. It was with great curiosity that I opened it, wondering what in the world could have occasioned it. It turned out to be an invitation and
