1. 303 East Grant Hwy. Marengo, Illinois January 20, 1940 Dear Nile, First I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your letter. As my doctor said, that letter is better medicine than he is. It will be one of my life-long treasures. I don't know why you wrote, "I hope you don't mind," when I would venture to say it is every boy's dream to recieve a letter from a person such as you. I didn't have the opportunity to see the Iowa-Northwestern game, but as I listened to the broadcast I kept crossing my fingers hoping you would be able to get back in there. I guess if a person can follow advice you give on courage after the Northwestern game he should go a long way. Maybe I should be satisfied with one letter from you, knowing you have your studies the same as the other students, but
