September 17, 1962 Mr. Douglas M. Spaulding Vice Principal Nile C. Kinnick High School Yokohama, Japan Dear Mr. Spaulding: We did indeed receive the 1962 Annual and appreciated again the opportunity of seeing the faces of the fine young people who make up the Nile Kinnick High student body and reviewing the activities of the past year. We always enjoy hearing from you and are glad that you can find time to include us in the circle of people who want to know 'what goes on'. Thanks so much for the year book. In regard to a picture to enlarge for the main foyer, we are sending two clear prints and three other items that may be of interest. 1. A picture in Navy uniform. We don't know who took this photo, probably the Navy. Evidently after completion of training. 2. The plain clothes picture was by Harris & Ewing in Washington, January 1940, when Nile went there to receive the Walter Camp trophy offered by the Touch Down Club of Washington D.C. 3. The picture in football garb was taken at the University of Iowa in 1939. 4. The sketch was made by Robert Mills of the Chicago News staff, and the caption below the print is by James Kearns of the News sports staff. Kearns spent many week ends following the Iowa team in 1939 and apparently developed a liking for Nile. 5. In 1944 Supreme Court Justice Rutledge spoke before the Chicago Bar Association, paying tribute to the late Dean Wigmore of Northwestern University and to Nile. Jim Kearns wrote the piece that is reproduced in the photostat. If one of the above will serve your purpose for the picture, please use it. And if the others will be useful to you in any way you may keep them too. With our kindest regards, and thanks again for your letter and the year book. Sincerely Nile C. Kinnick, Sr. Mrs. Nile C. Kinnick
