July, The, 13, 1863 My dear father and mother and sister i sat don to lat you now that i am well and i hope these fue lins will find you the same we had god luck on the forth of july the rabels surrendet general grant give the rabels til 10 on forth of july then if tha wodent serrender then he was going to open fiare on them so in the morning tha was oll on thar rifle pits we had oll the flags that we had on the rifle pits avre regement had a flag
