expect to have to go up & drive the French out of Mexico though. We are not having very pleasent times in the regt lately, partly on account of some domestic difficulty of which I needed not to make mention at present. However I feel considerably roiled this evening. I would not write this evening, but I am going on guard to morrow (if all be well) & the mail will go out to morrow or next day, I am afraid, before I have an other chance to write. We are expecting a paymaster over by next ship, to pay us off, and I hope he will come, for I am a year behind now & if any thing should happen, - say for instance I should be court martialed & sent home, they could stop too much back pay on me. Cap Woodward expects to go off on this ship, & if he does I shall probably take command of
