Saving...
men at Salmon river. We hear heavy guns in the direction of Savannah. 9" Lay in line until midnight then moved back to an open field and threw out skirmishers while the cavalry and 2" Brig fell back from the front line While we were falling back the enemy opened two pieces on the line, At 3 PM we drew off and passed a fortified line in the rear, crossed the river went 3/4 mile beyond and lay down in the woods till morning, Was awakened by a fellow falling a tree in camp upon two men, The fleet seems to be pounding away at some of their parts, (Vertically, at left:-) The negro women kept from crossing by order of Gen Davis (Vertically down at left:-) Ebenezer Creek.
